UK consumer-credit disclosures
Credit is one of the most consequential decisions most people make. These are the rules we hold ourselves to, so the real cost is always shown out loud.
FinanceSherpa is an independent comparison service, not a lender. This is information, not regulated financial advice. We do not arrange or grant credit. Credit is subject to status and affordability; confirm the rate, fees, total amount repayable and eligibility with the lender before you apply.
How we keep credit honest
-
Available cost fields are shown out loud
Cards surface the representative APR, loan amount, term and funding fields the catalogue provides. Missing data is shown as “Not stated”. That label means the entry is incomplete, not that the product has no cost.
-
A representative example, not a provider quote
UK credit advertising can require a representative example in prescribed circumstances. Our worked example groups the common cost fields for education; it is not a current market rate, a template for every advert or legal advice.
-
Available eligibility signals before the click
Cards surface catalogue regulator, minimum-age and soft-search prequalification fields where present. These signals do not guarantee permission, availability, acceptance or the advertised rate; verify them independently before applying.
-
How the Sherpa Score works
The Sherpa Score blends available representative APR, transparency and Trustpilot data. Missing components are omitted and remaining weights rebalanced, so the score is not a complete price comparison.
-
Chat is not an affordability or eligibility assessment
The Sherpa can prompt questions about need, payment comfort and cheaper routes, but it cannot assess affordability, recommend a regulated product or determine eligibility. If debt is difficult, use free debt advice before taking more credit.
-
No dark patterns, no fake urgency
No countdowns, no “rates rising — apply now”, no manufactured scarcity. Money decisions deserve gravity, not pressure.
Representative APR and a worked example
Rates shown are representative APRs supplied in our catalogue. A representative APR is the rate at least 51% of people accepted through that advert receive, so the rate you are offered may be higher. Compare the APR, the total amount repayable and the term together.
Representative example: borrowing £10,000 over 48 months at a representative 8.4% APR (fixed). Annual interest rate 8.1% (fixed), no fees. 48 monthly repayments of £244.60; total amount repayable £11,740.75.
| Amount of credit | £10,000.00 |
|---|---|
| Term | 48 months |
| Interest rate (fixed annual nominal) | 8.1% p.a. |
| Arrangement / set-up fee | £0.00 |
| Total cost of credit | £1,740.75 |
| Total amount repayable | £11,740.75 |
| Monthly repayment | £244.60 |
| Representative APR | 8.4% APR |
This illustration assumes the full amount is borrowed at the start, no fees, interest calculated monthly at the annual nominal rate divided by 12, and equal monthly payments starting one month later. Calculations use unrounded payments; the displayed payments and totals are rounded to the nearest penny, and APR to one decimal place. This is not a quote or a guarantee of your rate.
